What you’ll learn
Fundamental anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to blood collection
Safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance in the lab and patient setting
Proper patient identification, preparation, communication, and procedure explanation
Routine blood collections (venipuncture, capillary sticks) and special collection methods
Specimen processing, labeling, storage, and chain-of-custody protocols
Professional conduct, quality assurance, and effective team collaboration in healthcare settings

Blended format: Didactic instruction (online and in-person) + skills lab sessions + supervised live draws
Hands-on practice: You will perform a required minimum of 30 successful venipunctures and 10 capillary/finger sticks on live individuals, as required by NHA eligibility standards.
Exam preparation: Our curriculum aligns with the NHA CPT exam outline, including domains such as Safety & Compliance, Patient Preparation, Routine Collections, Special Collections, and Processing.
Certification support: Upon completion you’ll be eligible to sit for the NHA CPT exam — open to graduates of phlebotomy training programs.
Career pathways: Graduates are prepared for roles in hospitals, clinics, labs, blood donation centers, and other allied-health environments.
Enrollment requirements
High school diploma or GED (or scheduled for completion within 12 months) AscendBase+1
Successful completion of the training program and required live draws (30 venipunctures, 10 capillary/finger sticks) AscendBase+1
Meet any state- or site-specific prerequisites (e.g., TB screening, background check, immunizations) — we will guide you through these.
