How do I prepare for my lab draw?

If your physician provided you with a requisition or order, please ensure that the requisition is complete with your name, date of birth and insurance information (KHAWS staff will verify information before appointment ends).  If you ordered your labs through our self pay service we will verify information with you doing your appointment confirmation call. Also if your labs are fasting please do not eat 12 hours before your appointment and be sure to drink plenty of fluids (preferably water) for 24 hours prior to appointment.

Do you draw blood from pediatric patients and what should I do to prepare for my child's appointment?

YES! We specialize in pediatric blood draws.  It is important to keep your child hydrated 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. It is important to minimize amount of stress within the environment the child is in during their appointment.  The less stress the higher the success rate.  Safety is very important to your child and our staff. If you know your child gets aggressive when upset, is difficult to draw, or it usually takes more than one person to hold them still it is extremely important that you inform KHAWS so that we can make arrangements to have a safe and successful draw.

What happens after labs are drawn or specimen has been picked up?

If a sample is being collected for a laboratory that needs to be picked up via courier service, KHAWS is not responsible for any delay of arrival to the laboratory once the sample has been delivered or picked up by the courier service.
